$20M for durable AI
Berlin-based Restate raised $20 million in Series A funding led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures, to build durable execution infrastructure for applications including AI agents. Restate said its technology records execution progress, state, and communications so software processes can recover after interruptions without requiring developers to manually engineer recovery logic into every stage. Restate’s architecture combines execution, application state, and communication around a purpose-built distributed log and event-driven orchestrator, and it said the distributed log stores execution progress, state, and communications.
Restate said the system can operate without requiring a separate external database or search system while remaining lightweight enough to be deployed across an application, and it said the company will use the financing to support continued product development and U.S. expansion. Restate said it has teams in Berlin and San Francisco and will establish a new commercial hub in San Francisco as part of the Series A plan.

Flink roots, agent fit
Restate’s founders built on experience from Apache Flink, and the company said the architecture draws on the founders’ experience developing Apache Flink, which became widely deployed infrastructure for real-time stream processing. Stephan Ewen, CEO and co-founder of Restate, said, “Durable execution solved an important problem: it made individual processes reliable,” and he argued that software increasingly needs durability across services, agents, workflows, and state. Henri Tilloy, partner at Singular, said Restate is redefining where durable execution can be applied, adding, “Instead of treating durability as something confined to individual workflows, Restate brings execution, state and communication together in a runtime that developers can use across an application.”
Restate said agents can operate for extended periods, call external APIs and models, use software tools, communicate with people or other agents, and modify their behavior while a task is underway. Restate said it introduced a Bring Your Own Cloud deployment option so companies can run a fully managed version of Restate within their own cloud account and virtual private cloud, keeping application data inside their infrastructure.

Replit adoption, competition
Replit selected Restate’s technology as part of changes to the architecture supporting its AI coding agent, and Restate said it handles durable orchestration across Replit as the company expands its agent platform. Michele Catasta, president and head of AI at Replit, said, “As we continuously evolve our agent architecture, we realized we needed a new durable execution runtime that was both fast and a pleasure for developers to work with,” and she added, “Restate fit that bill perfectly.” Restate’s Series A also positions the company against Temporal, which raised $550 million at a $12.55 billion valuation the same month, and Restate’s funding is described as a fraction of Temporal’s war chest.
Tech.eu said the funding round in Berlin-founded Restate was led by European VC Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures, and it said the funding supports product development and U.S. expansion including a new commercial hub in San Francisco. TechCrunch said Restate intends to use its fresh capital to hire a go-to-market team, bring on more engineers, and expand its office in the San Francisco Bay Area to be closer to many of the current and potential customers.
