Cargo theft and new tracking
Samsara is introducing the Samsara Tracking Label, a business-card sized sticky label designed to be attached to shipments to combat cargo theft and cargo going missing during movement between ports or distribution centers.

In an exclusive interview with TechCrunch, Samsara Vice President David Gal said the label is designed for real-time tracking of cargo locations and is "designed for single-use."

TechCrunch said the label contains a small zinc battery and Bluetooth low energy tech that can be picked up by Samsara’s millions of other devices to provide real-time location in a disposable package.
Zamin.uz framed the problem as an increase in cases where cargo goes missing or is stolen during movement between ports or distribution centers, and said the company’s solution is the new Samsara Tracking Label.
How the label works
TechCrunch reported that Samsara’s Tracking Label resembles ordinary shipping labels but hides a small zinc battery and Bluetooth low energy tech that can be picked up by Samsara’s millions of other devices.
David Gal told TechCrunch that customers wanted "something that’s real time, and we need something that can be small enough to mount on any piece of equipment," and he said that feedback pushed Samsara to iterate from its earlier Asset Tag.
The Financial Times press release described the Tracking Label as an adhesive-backed, flexible, paper-thin label with a "45-day battery life after activation," and said it contains no lithium or hazardous materials.
Stock Titan added that the Bluetooth label is interoperable with the Samsara Network, which leverages millions of Samsara-connected devices including trucks, trailers, buses, construction equipment, warehouse scanners, and phones.
Crime-fighting claims and stakes
TechCrunch said Samsara expects the label to stay in the world of "critical shipments," and it described the company’s goal as shifting tracking from reactive to proactive when shipments are delayed or re-routed.

In the same TechCrunch interview, David Gal said, "I have a feeling that we’ll bust some crime rings with this," tying the tracking label directly to cargo theft enforcement.
Financial Times said the Shipment Center is meant to deter cargo theft and speed up resolution by using near real-time Bluetooth location data to make it harder for bad actors to divert or steal cargo undetected.
TechCrunch also noted a real-world theft example it used to illustrate the stakes: the disappearance of 24,000 bottles of tequila belonging to celebrity Guy Fieri.
