Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos, 26, Venezuelan in the U.S. illegally, arrested near White House Found in a vehicle with three guns; DHS says he threatened to kill Trump

Arrest near White House

Secret Service officers arrested 26-year-old Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos after the Department of Homeland Security said he was found with three guns in a parked vehicle on Constitution Avenue near the White House late on Thursday, 5 November. DHS said Chrinos told officers he had heard voices telling him to come to Washington, D.C. and kill President Donald Trump, and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said he was arrested “before he could harm anyone”.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the agency was “alarm[ed] by the increase in threat cases that continue to arise,” and DHS said officers recovered an AR-15-style rifle, a MAC-10 and a Glock 43X pistol along with dozens of rounds of ammunition. A law enforcement source placed the incident in the 1600 block of Constitution Avenue NW near the Ellipse, and DHS said the vehicle had been reported stolen and Chrinos admitted there were weapons in it.

Charges, custody, and court

DHS said Chrinos was charged on three counts each of unlawful transportation of a firearm, carrying unregistered firearms and carrying unregistered ammunition, and CBS News said DHS also listed one count each of possession of certain dangerous weapons, carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft and receiving stolen property.

DHS described the incident as reflecting a “heightened threat environment” and it quoted Sean Curran saying, “This incident reflects the heightened threat environment in which we operate”.

Chrinos entered the country illegally from Venezuela and was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol before being released, and Fox News said Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer with the U.S. Marshals Service, which had custody of Chrinos.

Chrinos was placed under an immigration detainer with the U.S. Marshals Service, while Nacionale said a federal law enforcement source told NBC News that prosecutors were reviewing the evidence and he was expected in federal court on Monday.

What happens next

Chrinos was held without bond after a first appearance in D.C. Superior Court on Friday, and it was not clear whether he had a lawyer.

The White House did not provide comment, instead referring to DHS and the U.S. Secret Service, while CBS News quoted Secret Service Director Sean Curran saying Secret Service personnel relied on training to “deescalate a volatile situation that posed an imminent threat to our protectees and other Americans”.

Fox News said DHS described the incident as an example of armed individuals “drawn to the White House complex,” and it said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the Secret Service for intervening before the suspect could harm anyone.

DHS described Chrinos as a Venezuelan national who entered the United States illegally through Texas in March 2024, and ICE lodged a detainer and he was held by the U.S., leaving the next procedural steps tied to prosecutors’ review and his expected appearance in federal court.
