Perez commits through 2029
Sergio Perez signed a multi-year contract extension with Cadillac that keeps him with the American Formula 1 team until at least 2029. Cadillac announced the renewal ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, where Perez was set to celebrate his 300th Formula 1 start on home soil in Mexico City. Perez, who joined Cadillac ahead of its venture into Formula 1 this year, said, “Joining Cadillac from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter,”.
“Sergio Perez has pledged his long-term future to Cadillac in Formula 1, signing an extension through 2029 inclusive.”
Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss said, “Building a competitive team in F1 is a long-term journey, and securing Checo’s talent and leadership gives us the continuity and commitment we need to build on the strong foundation established in our first year.” Cadillac’s extension also came with the team racing alongside Valtteri Bottas, with the BBC noting Perez and Bottas had not earned a point for Cadillac.

Teammate, milestones, and points
Valtteri Bottas remained Perez’s teammate as Cadillac’s renewal was announced, and the BBC said Perez was dropped by Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season after the team felt he had run out of time to prove he could support Verstappen. Perez sits bottom of the 2026 standings, with three 14th-place finishes in Barcelona, Silverstone, and Azerbaijan as his best performances. Autoweek said Perez would make his 300th grand prix on home soil in Mexico, and it described Perez and Cadillac’s commitment as a “natural continuation of this chapter.”
Perez holds a 5-1 race edge over Bottas in grands prix they both finished, not including Baku where Bottas was forced to retire on the final lap but was still classified. The New York Times also said the margin was tighter in qualifying, with Perez leading 10-8, and it added that Perez’s best finish of the season was 14th place in Barcelona, Silverstone and Azerbaijan.

Cadillac’s extension arrived as the team continued to face a points drought, with the Independent saying Cadillac were the only team on the grid yet to score a point this season.
