Shin Bet evacuates Yair
Israel’s domestic intelligence agency Shin Bet confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s eldest son, Yair Netanyahu, was urgently evacuated from the United States to Israel after it assessed a “significant threat to harm Yair Netanyahu.”

Shin Bet said that “following a situation assessment, a decision was made to extract him together with his security team urgently back to Israel,” and it did not specify the source of the threat.
Multiple outlets tied the evacuation to a threat linked to Iran, with Newsmax previously reporting that Israeli intelligence uncovered an alleged Iranian plan to assassinate Yair in Florida in December 2025.
The reports said Yair was in Florida when authorities decided to move him back to Israel, and that he left without taking his personal belongings while remaining accompanied by Israeli security.
Netanyahu cites Iran
Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with Israel’s Channel 14 that “Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to murder him – tried to murder one of my sons,” framing the threat as an Iranian attempt to kill a son.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the initial Newsmax account was published on the Boca Raton-based Newsmax website on Tuesday and cited a US law enforcement source alleging Israeli intelligence discovered an Iranian plot in December to assassinate Yair in Florida.
News18 described Shin Bet’s confirmation that Yair was moved urgently from the United States to Israel after authorities assessed he faced a “significant" threat from Iran, while also noting Shin Bet did not disclose details or say who was believed to be behind it.
News18 added that Channel 12 reported Shin Bet personnel were transferred from New York to Miami to help with the emergency evacuation, with the agents reportedly accompanying Israeli President Isaac Herzog during his US visit.
Security, scrutiny, and fallout
The Shin Bet statement described the evacuation as a response to a “significant threat” but did not specify the nature of the threat or who might have been involved, leaving the alleged Iranian link contested across the reporting.

Infobae said Shin Bet’s confirmation came five days after Netanyahu revealed in a telephone interview with pro-government Channel 14 that Iran had attempted to “assassinate” one of his children, without specifying whether he meant Yair, 35, or Avner, 31.
Infobae also reported that Channel 12 said Shin Bet transferred agents from New York to Miami for the extraction operation, where they were assigned to the security of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who was visiting that city at the time.
Across the coverage, Yair’s continued presence in the United States—described as spending much of the past few years in the Miami area—was linked to criticism in Israel, particularly after the October 2023 Hamas attack when hundreds of thousands of Israelis were called up for reserve duty.
