Floods Across Syria
Syrian authorities continued efforts to deal with floods that swept across several areas of the country after a low-pressure system accompanied by heavy rains, leaving a child dead, 12 people injured, and 20 others evacuated, according to Al-Jazeera Net.
“Syrian authorities on Tuesday continued their efforts to deal with floods that swept across several areas of the country, caused by a low-pressure system accompanied by heavy rains, which left a child dead, 12 people injured, and 20 others evacuated”
The Syrian News Agency (SANA) said several depressions were recorded in Syria, with rainfall varying between provinces, leading to floods and dust storms, especially on highways.

Al-Ikhbariyah Al-Souriyah said 20 people were rescued after being surrounded by floodwaters in the city of al-Qaryatayn in the countryside of Homs, in central Syria.
The channel confirmed that Civil Defense teams continued their work to open roads and secure families affected by the floods in al-Qaryatayn.
Al-Jazeera Net also reported that the Syrian Civil Defense said the atmospheric disturbance led to the death of a child who was swept away by floodwater in the village of al-Tanahij in the countryside of Hama while he was trying to film the flood after a mass of earth collapsed on the spot where he stood.
In the south, the Damascus Countryside Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate reported 12 civilians were injured when a bus overturned due to rain on the Damascus–Homs road.
SANA added that the General Organization for Road Transport in the Ministry of Transport began removing flood debris on the Damascus–Homs road after heavy rain partially impeded traffic flow, and Damascus branch director Bassam Dakak said maintenance workshops removed soils and mudslides over a distance of about 3 kilometers and reopened the road safely for vehicles.
Dam Threat in Aleppo
Syria’s flood risk was not limited to already-flooded areas, with SANA reporting that the Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry warned Monday of rising flood risks in parts of Aleppo countryside and called on residents of Tal Aqareb village to prepare for a possible evacuation.
The warning was tied to water levels increasing behind al-Syaha earthen dam, and SANA said the risk persisted if the second embankment was damaged or partially collapses.

SANA added that Civil Defense teams, in coordination with the Water Resources Directorate and local authorities in southern Jabal Samaan area, were working to reinforce the structure and prevent further deterioration.
The agency said earlier Saturday a breach in the embankment led to flooding of around 10 hectares of agricultural land.
Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh said in a post on X that Civil Defense teams had been responding since early morning to the impact of thunderstorms and flash floods in several areas.
SANA also reported that al-Saleh said flooding in eastern Hama countryside resulted in the death of a child and caused the closure of the Athriya–Raqqa road after a culvert collapse, in addition to sweeping away and trapping a number of vehicles.
In the same SANA report, al-Saleh urged residents to rely solely on official information and follow safety instructions, and he said early warnings had been issued over the past 24 hours regarding unstable weather conditions expected to continue until early Tuesday with heavy thunderstorms and a possibility of hail.
Civil Defense Response
Across multiple reports, Civil Defense teams and other authorities were described as actively responding to flooding impacts and road disruptions.
“Aleppo, April 26 (SANA) Syria’s Emergency and Disaster Management Ministry warned Monday of rising flood risks in parts of Aleppo countryside, calling on residents of Tal Aqareb village to prepare for a possible evacuation as water levels continue to increase behind al-Syaha earthen dam”
Al-Jazeera Net said Civil Defense posted photos showing teams opening roads and carving water passages in several areas of the country, and it described Civil Defense teams continuing their work to open roads and secure families affected by the floods in al-Qaryatayn.
In the Damascus countryside, the Damascus Countryside Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate said Civil Defense teams provided first aid to several injuries, with five transported to the hospital and seven helped by civilians.
SANA reported that Civil Defense teams were working to reinforce the second embankment of al-Syaha dam in southern Jabal Samaan area, in coordination with the Water Resources Directorate and local authorities.
Al-Jazeera Net added that the General Directorate of Meteorology posted on Facebook videos of flash floods and heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail in several areas of the country.
The General Directorate of Meteorology also predicted that the unsettled weather pattern with thunderstorm rain would continue today, Tuesday, and that conditions were expected to stabilize tomorrow, Wednesday.
In addition, SANA said the General Organization for Road Transport in the Ministry of Transport began removing flood debris on the Damascus–Homs road, and Bassam Dakak said maintenance workshops moved to the site as soon as the rain stopped, supported by heavy machinery, to remove soils and mudslides over a distance of about 3 kilometers.
Official Warnings and Mourning
SANA’s account of the flood situation included both operational guidance and a direct message from the Emergency and Disaster Management Minister.
SANA said authorities urged residents to rely solely on official information and follow safety instructions to ensure their protection, and it emphasized that the risk persisted if the second embankment was damaged or partially collapses.

Minister Raed al-Saleh urged residents to adhere to official warnings and avoid approaching flood channels, stressing the importance of precautionary measures.
SANA included a quoted appeal from al-Saleh: “May God have mercy on the child we lost today due to the floods, and grant his family patience and solace,” tying the warning to the reported child death.
In Al-Jazeera Net’s report, the Syrian Civil Defense said the atmospheric disturbance led to the death of a child who was swept away by floodwater in the village of al-Tanahij in the countryside of Hama while he was trying to film the flood after a mass of earth collapsed on the spot where he stood.
Al-Jazeera Net also reported that the General Directorate of Meteorology predicted the unsettled weather pattern with thunderstorm rain would continue today, Tuesday, and that conditions were expected to stabilize tomorrow, Wednesday.
SANA further said Syria was currently affected by unstable weather conditions expected to continue until early Tuesday, accompanied by heavy thunderstorms and a possibility of hail.
Roads, Land, and Future Risk
The flood reports described impacts that ranged from agricultural land flooding to road closures and vehicle incidents, with authorities working to restore transport routes.
