Patriot Passport Unveiled
President Donald Trump unveiled a new rendering of a limited-edition commemorative U.S. passport bearing his likeness as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, posting on Truth Social: “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’”
CNN reported the sample passport page shows Trump looming over the Resolute Desk with the text of the original Declaration of Independence in the background and his signature on the bottom, while the opposite page features “The Declaration of Independence” painting by John Trumbull.

The Guardian said the White House called the document the “patriot passport” and that the state department said it was created “to commemorate the historic occasion of America’s 250th anniversary and will be issued at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, DC starting on July 6, 2026, while supplies last”.
CNN also reported the White House directed questions to the State Department when asked if the latest image was the official rendering of the commemorative passports, and CNN said it reached out to the State Department for comment.
Where It’s Available
Forbes said the commemorative passport will only be issued at the Washington Passport Agency in Washington, D.C., starting on July 6, and that it will be the default passport given out at the location while still available.
Forbes also reported that the passport will not be issued to applicants applying for passports online, through the mail, at U.S. embassies or consulates abroad or at passport agencies other than D.C.’s Washington Passport Agency.

The Milwaukee Independent reported that between 25,000 and 30,000 of the new passports will be available to applicants at the Washington DC, passport office beginning shortly before July 4, and it quoted State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott saying, “As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports”.
The Straits Times reported that in April the department official said the Trump-themed passports would be available only at in-person appointments in Washington “for as long as there is availability,” while the State Department said it had previously announced a commemorative passport with “custom artwork” would be available from July 6.
Political Criticism and Stakes
The Guardian reported that Democratic lawmakers called on the administration to halt production of a commemorative 250th anniversary solid-gold coin that would bear the same image of the president as on the new passport and the words “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT”.
The Guardian said Democratic senators Elizabeth Warren, of Massachusetts, and Ron Wyden, of Oregon, argued the coin project should be dropped following reports that some gold used by the US Mint came from countries where gold is mined illegally, adding that the senators said the coin “is more befitting a monarchy than a democracy”.
The Hill described the passport as part of a broader push to insert Trump’s name or likeness to federal buildings and online services, and it noted that the administration’s efforts to add Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center had been the subject of a legal challenge.
In the same vein, CNN reported that the new limited-edition travel document was first announced in April as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration and that it was billed as “a limited-edition U.S. passport to commemorate the historic occasion of America’s 250th anniversary,” featuring “custom artwork and enhanced images on the front, back, and inside covers.”
