Key Takeaways
- Twitch banned ExtraEmily after a June 28 IRL stream where she read chat while driving.
- The clip went viral on social media, prompting criticism of distracted driving and livestream safety.
- Outlets highlighted concerns about IRL streaming policies on safety and platform rules.
Near-Crash Leads to Ban
Twitch streamer ExtraEmily was banned from Twitch after an IRL livestream on June 28, 2026 showed her nearly crashing her car while looking at chat messages.
“Twitch streamer ExtraEmily has been banned from the platform after a clip showing her nearly crashing while livestreaming went viral across social media”
UNILAD said the 28-year-old content creator appeared to glance at her screen, tried to switch lanes, and “doesn't see the other car and almost collides into it.”

Dexerto reported the incident happened roughly one hour and 25 minutes into her livestream as she was making a left turn, with a Mazda SUV approaching from the opposite direction while Emily appeared to be looking at her phone rather than the road.
Dexerto also said no collision occurred and neither vehicle appeared to sustain any damage, while UNILAD said the ban means “all of whom won't be able to see new content from her for the foreseeable.”
Apology, Policy, and Backlash
During the livestream, Emily acknowledged the mistake, saying, “Oh, sorry! My bad! That was my bad. I’ve got to check my… whoopsies!”
Dexerto tied the enforcement to Twitch’s rules, saying the platform’s Self-Destructive Behavior policy lists “operating your vehicle while interacting with your stream in a way that removes your eyes from the road or hands from controlling your vehicle” as never acceptable.
UNILAD said the clip was reshared on other platforms and that backlash followed, including a comment to TwitchSupport that asked, “I am really tempted to attempt illegally streaming while driving after seeing this behavior be encouraged by your platform.”
UNILAD also quoted a viewer arguing that enforcement was inconsistent, writing, “so others get permabanned for reading chat, but @extraemilyy can almost cause an accident and nothing?”
What Happens Next
UNILAD said it was unclear how long the ban would last, noting Twitch’s temporary suspensions can last anywhere before 24 hours to 30 days, and that a streaming suspension prevents access to features including going live and uploading VODs.
“ExtraEmily nearly meets an accident while checking Twitch chat; viral video sparks backlash over safety issues: 'They won't care until someone dies over this dumb sh*t' Twitch streamer ExtraEmily nearly caused a crash while reading her chat on stream, prompting criticism of distracted driving and platform policies on IRL content”
Dexerto reported that Emily’s channel now displays Twitch’s standard notice stating it is unavailable “due to a violation of Twitch’s Community Guidelines.”
The Times of India said the latest ban comes after a prior distracted-driving suspension in 2025, when a clip showed her running a red light while looking at her phone, and Twitch suspended her the very next day.
NDTV Sports added that after the April 2025 suspension, Emily posted an update on Discord saying her Twitch account had received a one-day ban for distracted driving, while The Times of India said Twitch had not shared additional details about the length of the latest ban.
