No U.S. Block

The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump will not block the United Kingdom’s extradition of influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate, who were arrested in Miami on Saturday after UK prosecutors announced new charges.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters, “No,” when asked whether the president or his administration planned to intervene in the Tate extradition case.

ABC NewsABC News

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also distanced himself from any intervention, saying, “There’s no role for us to play at this moment or maybe ever in that regard,” while he was in the Philippines on Wednesday.

The new UK charges include rape, sex trafficking and assault, and the alleged abuses took place between 2010 and 2017, according to the accounts in the sources.

The White House stance came as the Tates’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, said the charges are “politically motivated,” and the brothers were described as avid supporters of Trump.

Charges and Custody

The sources say the Tate brothers are being sought by the United Kingdom for sexual offenses and were detained on Saturday in Miami, with their defense describing the arrest as politically motivated.

El Universal said the British prosecutors’ new charges brought the total to 59 charges, with 42 against Andrew and 17 against Tristan, and it described the brothers as trying to avoid extradition.

ABC NewsABC News

El Universal also quoted White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying, “No,” when asked whether the president or his administration planned to intervene.

Al Jazeera reported that UK prosecutors said the alleged abuses by the brothers took place between 2010 and 2017, and it listed Andrew’s charges as including seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault, and 19 charges for offences relating to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography.

In the same reporting, Al Jazeera said Tristan was charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating sex trafficking, while Joseph McBride said the charges are “politically motivated”.

Next Steps in Court

As the extradition fight moves forward, Infobae said the brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were in federal custody in Miami and that “in the coming weeks, a federal district judge will decide whether they meet the conditions for extradition.”

Infobae also reported that Federal Judge Lauren Louis set a new hearing for next Monday, and it said the British request adds four new victims to previous charges.

The Independent reported that a US district judge will decide whether the brothers meet the conditions for extradition, with US Magistrate Lauren Louis setting another hearing for 27 July.

The Independent also said the process could last a few years if the accused wants to fight it, and it described the extradition framework as involving a judge’s review and the possibility of appeals.

Across the sources, the White House position remains that there is “no role” for the federal government to intervene, while the legal process proceeds in Miami federal court and the UK case continues to be framed around rape, sex trafficking and assault charges.
