About this analysis

Al Jazeera reports that Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian met Qatar's Emir on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Moscow, and attributes the account of the talks to Iranian state media. It places the meeting within the US-Israel war on Iran and Qatar's mediation role. Nothing in it misleads the reader.

What it gets right

  • “the US-Israel war on Iran”

Al Jazeera names who launched the war in its own voice. It does not write it as a war that simply broke out, while it still reports Iran's strikes on Qatar.

  • “Iranian state media reported”

The account of what the leaders discussed is clearly marked as Iranian state media's account, not stated as the outlet's own finding.

  • “There was no mention of a discussion of the US-Israel war on Iran”

The outlet tells the reader plainly what the official readout left out, rather than filling the gap with guesswork.
