It reportedly destroys about 90 per cent of all missiles fired by its enemies including Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran . Ms Badenoch warned that hostile states have come perilously close to hitting the UK’s overseas bases which are too vulnerable. Last year, a Defence Select Committee warned that Britain had “next to nothing” in the way of air defences. The Tories are committing to get Britannia Shield operational by the end of their first term in power if elected. Ms Badenoch has vowed to increase defence spending to three per cent of GDP by 2030 by cutting sickness benefits. Ms Badenoch said: “Labour still will not commit the money Britain needs for defence. “They keep pouring billions into a broken welfare system while leaving our security underfunded. When forced to choose, they pick social security over national security.” Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge added: “With a £10billion budget, this would be one of Britain’s most significant military programmes since the Cold War.” RAF Fairford in the Cotswolds has been the focus of an anti- terror investigation since three suspicious vehicles were spotted nearby and five men arrested on September 27.
