Met Office issues 21 hour 'protect property' warning as third storm approaches UK - 42 areas at risk

A third storm appears to be on its way towards the UK and could develop into a "significant" weather phenomenon over the next 48 hours. Storm Chloe could batter the country a lot sooner than some may have hoped or expected, following a weekend of torrential rain, flooding and "damaging gusts" brough by Storm Austen and its much stronger successor, Storm Boelo . The next storm, as per the alphabetical names released by the Met Office , Met Éireann in Ireland and KNMI in the Netherlands, will be called Storm Chloe. Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel said in his latest forecast that this could hit the region soon, Dublin Live reports . He explained: "The next storm depression is already winding itself up... and it is expected to develop into another significant storm over the next 48 hours. [...] So while we will see some strong and gusty winds through tomorrow Monday accompanied by spells of heavy rain, it's not going to be quite as intense, certainly not as Storm Boulo, which was certainly the strongest of the two storms we've had so far." He added: "If this is to be named a storm as we go through tomorrow and into Tuesday, it's likely to be named by the UK Met Office. The very strongest of the winds will be across the northwest of Scotland. If it is to be named a storm it will be of course called Storm Chloe. And otherwise, beyond that it looks like our weather actually settles down." Storm Austen and Storm Boelo brought a number of weather warnings across the UK. Six of them were in place, with some of them still in force at the time of writing, over the weekend, including an amber warning for wind. The heavy rain and strong winds have made a significant impact across the country, leading to damaged buildings, flooding, thousands being left without power, and severe public transport disruption. The last of the weather warnings are set to expire at 9pm today but another yellow warning for wind will come into force at 3am on Tuesday, remaining in place until midnight. This will affect Scotland, northeastern Northern Ireland and some parts of northern England. The Met Office has once again warned of "damaging gusts" and transport disruption, with winds expected to exceed 70mph. The UK forecaster has not yet commented on the possibility of Storm Chloe developing in the coming days.
