What we found (1)

Al Jazeera reports Monday's Israeli killings across Gaza plainly. It names Israeli forces as the killers, names two of the dead, keeps the military's claim attributed and unverified, and places the attacks within Israel's genocidal war and the death toll since the so-called ceasefire. One sentence about a community kitchen minibus leaves out who hit it.

  1. Hides who did it

    Minor

“three Palestinians were wounded on Monday when a minibus belonging to a community kitchen was hit in Zeitoun”

    Why this matters
The words "was hit" give the attack on the community kitchen minibus no actor. Three people are wounded by nobody.
    The impression it gives
A reader who follows the rest of the piece will probably assume Israeli forces did it, but this sentence does not say so.
    The context
Anadolu reports that the Israeli army targeted the community kitchen bus and that the injuries in Zeitoun came from Israeli shelling. The article names Israel as the attacker in every other incident and could have done so here.

What it gets right

  • “Israeli forces have killed at least four Palestinians in attacks across Gaza”

Al Jazeera names who killed whom in its own voice and uses the word killed, in both the headline and the opening sentence.

  • “The Israeli military said it targeted Palestinian fighters in three strikes, but provided no further details.”

The military's claim about who it targeted is attributed, and the outlet says plainly that no evidence came with it. It does not label the dead as fighters itself.

  • “Overall, Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 74,609 Palestinians”

The outlet places a day's killings within the scale of Israel's genocide and states the toll without a hedge, in line with the documented record.
