The threat comes after Donald Trump warned Iran would be "totally wiped out as a country" if it launches retalitory strikes. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned on Tuesday that the United States "will regret its new attacks", according to Iranian state news agency Fars. The warning came after US forces launched a fresh wave of strikes against IRGC targets in Iran as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated. At 12pm ET on Tuesday US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed American forces began striking targets. It said: "The strikes follow recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region." Reports of explosions subsequently emerged from several locations across Iran. Iranian state media also reported explosions in Jask and Sirik, while reports said US forces had attacked a civilian airport in Jiroft in southern Iran. Trump subsequently issued a stark warning to Tehran against responding to the latest American strikes . US forces struck Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island before Iran fired eight missiles at American military facilities in Jordan, all of which were intercepted. Just hours before the strikes, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Tehran was prepared to return to the terms of a June memorandum of understanding if Washington did the same. He said: "I am stating clearly that if the US returns to its commitments under the Memorandum of Understanding, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reciprocate." Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf did also warn that Tehran would respond militarily, however, if Washington intensified what he described as its "siege" of Iran. He added: "If the US siege is intensified, we will definitely respond militarily."
