Iraqi resistance group vows to fight alongside Iran if it faces ‘existential’ US-Israeli aggression

An Iraqi anti-terror resistance group has pledged to fight alongside Iran if a US-Israeli war against the country threatens the Islamic Republic’s existence.

“If Iran faces a genuine threat to its existence, we will certainly participate in that battle,” Secretary General of the Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Abu Ala al-Walai, said.

He added, “If the threat is not existential, however, we will not participate, as we demonstrated during the recent war against Iran.”

Walai stressed that the relationship between his resistance faction and Tehran goes beyond political alignment.

“Our relationship with Iran is historical and religious. We see Iran as a neighbor and a friend. It provided support in every form during the war against Daesh [Takfiri terrorist group], from logistical support, training, and weapons to the participation of Iranian advisors,” he said.

“This is a deeply rooted relationship based on religion and neighborly ties that cannot be severed. Our blood has mingled on the same battlefields and in the same trench,” the prominent Iraqi resistance figure pointed out.

On Thursday, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi, who serves as an adviser to the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), cautioned that a ground invasion of Iran by the United States would result in significant losses for American troops.

Naqdi warned that the introduction of US ground forces would lead to substantial casualties and the capture of many soldiers, rendering such a strategy too costly for the US.

Concerning US naval ships, Naqdi noted that these vessels face threats, and their presence in the area poses dangers to the personnel on board. He emphasized that an attack on a ship with numerous troops could result in severe casualties and have serious domestic consequences for the United States.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched an unprovoked aggression against Iran.

Forty days later, on April 8, due to Iran’s resilience and effective counterattacks, the enemies had no choice but to agree to a ceasefire.

In July, the US launched a series of lethal air strikes on Iran and enforced a naval blockade, breaching the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Islamic Republic, which was signed on June 17 to conclude the war.

In retaliation, the Iranian military executed powerful strikes on key American positions throughout West Asia and announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels.
