Israel carries out strikes in southern Lebanon in fresh ceasefire violations
An Israeli drone bombed a home in southern Lebanon on Monday as Israeli forces shelled several areas, carried out an airstrike and detonated explosives in fresh violations of a ceasefire, Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported. The drone dropped two bombs on a house between Shoukin and Mayfadoun in Nabatieh district, with no injuries reported. Israeli artillery also shelled the al-Sawwan area on the outskirts of Mayfadoun intermittently and struck Mansouri in Tyre district, according to the agency.
Israeli forces also set off two large blasts in the al-Ruwais neighborhood of Zawtar al-Sharqiya, NNA reported, without providing further details. An Israeli airstrike targeted the outskirts of Qantara in the Wadi al-Saluki area of Marjayoun district. Separately, a person collecting scrap metal was injured when a suspicious object exploded at the Deir Kifa junction in Tyre district, the agency said. Their condition was not disclosed. A US-sponsored agreement reached between Lebanon and Israel on June 26 calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups.
Despite the agreement, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have continued, killing at least 4,386 people and injuring 12,407 others since March 2 while displacing more than 1 million people. Israel continues to occupy areas in southern Lebanon, some held for decades and others seized during the 2023-2024 war, while during the latest conflict, Israeli forces advanced around 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into Lebanese territory.
