This will mean operators earning above the threshold need to pay 20 per cent VAT on the full value of their fares from January 2, 2028. Labour will launch a public consultation shortly to confirm the precise level of the threshold. The impression it gives
A reader expects VAT changes that hit taxi firms across the board, including small local operators.
    The context
The body says the rules cover only larger operators above a turnover threshold, possibly £50million. Healey's own words promise to protect smaller, local firms.

What it gets right

  • “He said he would "resolve the question of VAT for larger taxi companies, ensuring they play by the same rules no matter where they're located, while still protecting smaller, local firms".”

The article quotes the Chancellor directly and keeps his words attributed to him, including the limit to larger firms.

  • “although this could change based on feedback”

The article makes clear the £50million threshold is not settled and depends on the consultation.

  • “The Office for Budget Responsibility's economic and fiscal outlook document states”

The article attributes the revenue figures to the OBR rather than stating them in its own voice.
