Prince William has lined up Take That for a historic performance at his Earthshot Prize Awards. Gary, Mark and Howard will give their first-ever performance in India during the awards ceremony in Mumbai next month , where they will also join a host of global stars across music, film and sport. The awards is halfway through its decades-long cycle to recognise and reward ideas by companies and individuals to help save the planet from climate change and other environmental issues.

The five winners of each category in the awards on November 17, will receive £1million to scale up their solutions, with the Princess of Wales expected to join her husband in India. Take That’s performance will come ahead of the release of their 10th studio album, Dreamers, and the band said: “We’ve been lucky enough to perform in some incredible places around the world over the past 35 years, but India is somewhere we’ve always dreamed of bringing our music.

“To be performing here for the very first time, after all these years, and alongside the extraordinary people creating a better future for our planet - is really special. “As we’ve seen the world over, music has an exquisite way of bringing people together, and we can’t wait to share that magic with The Earthshot Prize and the world from Mumbai. We’re ready for a night we’ll never forget.” It has also been announced that renowned Indian composer Shashwat Sachdev will also perform in the show’s finale.

Take That and Shashwat will join the likes of cricket Sachin Tendulkar, Oscar winner Rami Malek and Devil Wears Prada star Simone Ashley, who will also be at the awards, alongside Earthshot Ambassador Robert Irwin. It will be hosted by Bollywood legend Karan Johar. Since its launch in 2021, William has managed to attract a host of stars to promote his environmental awards, from Hollywood names Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett to broadcaster and naturalist Sir David Attenborough and former prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern.

The initiative was inspired by former US president John F Kennedy’s Moonshot project, which set scientists the challenge of placing an astronaut on the moon and returning him safely – and in the process helped advance mankind’s achievements.” Last week, William also appeared on BBC The Graham Norton Show to promote the awards in Mumbai. Jason Knauf, CEO of The Earthshot Prize, said: "This year in Mumbai, we’re telling the biggest story in the world.

“It’s a story of the immense challenges facing our planet, but also the amazing progress that extraordinary people – scientists, innovators, activists and leaders – can make possible. 2026 will be the biggest and best Earthshot Prize Awards Night yet, and we’re thrilled to have music legends Take That join us in Mumbai to celebrate the people who drive forward The Earthshot Prize’s mission.” The Earthshot Prize Awards from Mumbai will be streamed live for the first time on Amazon Prime.

The decision to use Prime as Earthshot’s broadcasting partner means the event will reach a global audience of more than 240 countries and territories, covering more than 40 languages.

About this analysis

The Mirror reports that Take That will play their first show in India at Prince William's Earthshot Prize Awards in Mumbai, and lists the other stars and the prize money. It names climate change as the problem the awards exist to address. Nothing in it misleads the reader.

What it gets right

  • “to help save the planet from climate change and other environmental issues”

The Mirror names climate change plainly as the problem the prize addresses, with no hedge on the science.

  • “will give their first-ever performance in India”

The body gives the concrete fact behind the headline's 'historic', so the headline does not go beyond the article.
