Home Office spend thousands on ‘don’t rape women’ guide
Oh dear. It seems that the Home Office has got it wrong again. Back in August, there was an outcry after officials published guidance for asylum seekers telling them, er, not to rape or sexually harass people – including partners and children. Nice! The nine-page document told new arrivals – including those charming chaps landing on our shores – that women are allowed to ‘earn their own money’ and ‘make their own decisions about their lives’. A novelty for some of them, eh? Now Mr S has done some digging and uncovered the cost of the hastily-disowned document. A written question put down by Neil Shastri-Hurst to ministers has found that while ‘no physical materials have been printed, ordered or distributed’, the ‘total cost of the development off the posters and the leaflets was £21,635’. The Tory MP fumed to Steerpike: It is frankly ludicrous the government has spent taxpayers’ money on producing a publication that should never have been required in the first place. It is no wonder the public, quite rightly, are despairing at this government’s priorities. Such a shame that the Office for Value for Money has been scrapped eh…
