Tanker hit by unknown projectile in Strait of Hormuz: UK maritime agency
A tanker was hit by an unknown projectile while transiting outbound through the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in a warning on Friday. The incident occurred at 1715 GMT on Thursday, Oct. 22, approximately 7 nautical miles northeast of Limah, Oman, according to the notice. UKMTO said it received a delayed report of the incident from a company security officer. “The tanker was able to continue its voyage to the next port of call,” it said. The notice did not identify the vessel or provide information about casualties or the extent of any damage. Authorities are investigating, UKMTO said, advising vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions following the US-Iran military confrontation and ongoing security concerns affecting shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
