Hours after the Defence Secretary urged Brits to stockpile three days worth of basic essentials in case of emergencies , the TV star argued that he had a point. "Recently in Devon we had no electricity for 4 days, no cooker, no loos flushing (the water is pumped by electricity), no lights, no heating (1 fire downstairs). Not much fun, but it woke me up to prepping for this type of event, which is all Wes Streeting is asking of us," Kirstie tweeted on Friday. Shortly after posting, however, the presenter was inundated with messages. "You're prepping because the government has failed. Stop making excuses for them; demand solutions or a new government," replied one. Still, they're bringing back hope, I suppose," quipped a second. "Some people simply can't afford to stock up in any fashion, Kirstie. They are already living hand to mouth as it is. Are they prepared for the eventuality that there may be disruption to essential supply chains caused by hostile state actors or terrorists? "How would we cope if the payment systems at the local supermarket went down?" he added. Streeting later clarified that there was no "specific thing" in mind regarding the type of emergencies Brits might face, though having supplies ready was important for "everyday national resilience".
