Israeli forces shoot Palestinian man to death in Gaza's Khan Younis
A Palestinian man was shot to death Friday by Israeli forces in Gaza’s city of Khan Younis in the latest Israeli breach of a ceasefire deal that ostensibly went into effect last October. The body of Ibrahim Mohammed Kawara, 29, was later taken to the nearby Nasser Hospital after he was killed by Israeli forces in the city’s Qizan al-Najjar district, a medical source at the hospital told Anadolu. Without identifying Kawara by name, the Israeli army claimed in a statement that an individual had posed an “immediate threat” by crossing the so-called “Yellow Line” before approaching its forces. The “Yellow Line” refers to the perimeter to which Israeli forces withdrew under the first phase of a US-backed plan to end Israel’s ongoing genocidal war in Gaza. Since the ceasefire deal was signed last October, the area occupied by Israeli forces in Gaza has increased from 53 percent to 70 percent, according to Israeli officials. More than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed across the coastal enclave, mostly women and children, since Israel launched its war in October 2023.
