About this analysis

BBC News reports that a fish farm feed barge sank in Loch Torridon after Storm Boelo. It attributes the company's and the coastguard's statements clearly. We found no problem we could publish in this short report.

What it gets right

  • “Salmon firm Bakkafrost Scotland said no-one was hurt and all the fish pens at its Sgeir Dughall site in Loch Torridon remained intact.”

The BBC names the company and its site, and attributes the reassurances to the firm rather than stating them in its own voice.

  • “The site is being monitored and no significant pollution has been reported.”

The BBC gives the pollution assessment to the coastguard, an independent authority, rather than leaving the company's word on its environmental impact unchecked.
