About this analysis

Metro reports that two pedestrians were hurt when scaffolding fell on Streatham High Road during Storm Boelo. Passersby pulled them free and both were taken to hospital. The account rests on London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service statements and Met Office wind figures, and nothing in it misleads the reader.

What it gets right

  • “Two people were trapped under the scaffolding and rescued before the Brigade arrived.”

Metro takes the account of what happened to the two pedestrians from the London Fire Brigade and quotes it directly, so the reader knows where the facts come from.

  • “We treated two patients at the scene and took both of them to a hospital.”

Metro quotes the London Ambulance Service on the casualties. It claims nothing about how badly the two were hurt beyond what the service said.

  • “The Met Office said wind speeds widely reached 60-70mph”

Metro attributes the wind speeds to the Met Office and gives the time the amber warning came into force, so the figure is sourced.
