About this analysis

Sky News reports that police arrested a 35-year-old man under the Terrorism Act in Belfast and found suspicious items during searches on the Shankill Road. It attributes each detail to the PSNI and describes the man as arrested on suspicion, not as guilty. Nothing in the article misleads its reader.

What it gets right

  • “has been arrested as part of an investigation into suspected terrorism offences”

Sky News reports an arrest and a suspicion. It does not treat the unnamed man as guilty, and the headline keeps the same careful wording.

  • “A PSNI spokesperson said it was part of a”

The article attributes the police description of the operation to the force. It puts the contested terms, such as "suspicious devices", inside quotation marks rather than adopting them in its own voice.
