Israel frustrated as Lebanese army fails to dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure

The next round of military-level talks between Israel and Lebanon is expected on October 20 and 22 at CENTCOM headquarters in Tampa, Florida. While the Lebanese government publicly presses Israel for further withdrawals, Beirut understands that such expectations are unrealistic as long as the Lebanese army fails to deliver on its commitments. A senior Israeli security official tells me that there is virtually no progress on the ground. Israel is directing and assisting the Lebanese army, including by providing intelligence, but Hezbollah infrastructure is not being dismantled as promised and the LAF does not assert itself. https://x.com/i/web/status/2110062788894966127 This post can't be displayed because social networks cookies have been deactivated. According to a report by Asharq Bloomberg, the complaint stems from a September 27 media report alleging she contacted Israel’s ambassador to the US to ask about his son, who was injured in an attack in the West Bank. Lebanon’s prosecutor general reportedly referred the complaint to the government commissioner to the military court for appropriate legal action. Moawad is one of the leading figures on Lebanon’s negotiating team with Israel, and while the complaint may ultimately be dismissed or shelved, it could be seen as an attempt at intimidation that might target others involved in the talks. The case comes as Hezbollah takes an increasingly assertive posture, announcing the availability of funds, which the State Department disputes.
