Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza meets Paris mayor to discuss Gaza

No framing issues found.

Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza said Monday he met with Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire to discuss Gaza, Palestine, and his experiences documenting the lives of Palestinians. Azaiza said in a post on US social media platform Instagram that he accepted an invitation from Gregoire for “a meeting and an open conversation about Gaza, Palestine, and my journey as a Palestinian photojournalist.” The discussions covered daily life in Gaza, the stories behind his photographs, and the shared responsibility to ensure Palestinian voices are not forgotten, he said.

“What meant the most to me was his genuine interest in listening, his solidarity, and his willingness to explore ways to do more for Gaza and the Palestinian people,” Azaiza wrote. The photojournalist said seeing such conversations take place in settings where decisions can be made and meaningful action can begin was significant after years spent documenting his people’s suffering, resilience, and humanity. “I have always believed that photography is more than capturing a moment.

It is a way of giving people a voice, preserving their stories, and reminding the world of our shared humanity,” he said. Azaiza expressed hope that the discussions would produce tangible results. “My hope is that conversations like this will turn into real actions that make a difference in people’s lives,” he said. “Our stories deserve to be heard. Our people deserve to live in freedom, dignity, and peace.”

About this analysis

Anadolu Agency reports that Palestinian photojournalist Motaz Azaiza met Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire to discuss Gaza, drawing on Azaiza's own Instagram post. Every claim about the meeting is attributed to Azaiza, and the article lets him describe his work and his people in his own words. Nothing in it misleads the reader about the event it reports.

What it gets right

  • “Azaiza said in a post on US social media platform Instagram”

The article names its source for the meeting plainly, so the reader knows the account comes from Azaiza's own post.

  • “after years spent documenting his people’s suffering, resilience, and humanity”

The article presents Palestinians as people with suffering, resilience and humanity rather than as numbers, and frames it through a Palestinian journalist's own work.

  • “Our people deserve to live in freedom, dignity, and peace.”

The article gives a Palestinian the last word on his own people's story, in his own voice.
