ISTANBUL

Israeli forces opened fire near Lebanese farmers harvesting olives and detained a resident during an incursion into Deir Mimas on Friday, amid a series of attacks across four districts in southern Lebanon, the country's official National News Agency reported.

The incidents, reported between early Friday and 1415GMT, affected the districts of Marjayoun, Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil and Tyre.

The attacks continued despite a US-mediated "Framework Agreement" signed by Beirut and Tel Aviv on June 26, 2026, which calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied areas alongside the deployment of the Lebanese army and its assumption of security responsibilities.

In one of the main incidents, an Israeli patrol advanced from Kfar Kila toward the outskirts of Deir Mimas in the Marjayoun district and opened fire near residents harvesting olives, forcing them to leave the area, the agency said.

The patrol later took up positions on the outskirts of the town, blocked entry and exit, and detained a resident before taking him to an unknown location.

Artillery fire, demolitions reported across southern districts

Elsewhere in Marjayoun, Israeli military vehicles advanced toward the Naba Ibl al-Saqi area near Khiam, accompanied by extensive machine-gun fire.

The agency later reported that Israeli vehicles withdrew toward Khiam after conducting military movements and sweeps in the area.

The town of Qantara also came under Israeli artillery and machine-gun fire, accompanied by military vehicle movements and a demolition operation, while artillery shelling struck Wadi al-Saluqi.

In the Nabatieh district, the outskirts of Mayfadoun came under intermittent Israeli artillery fire.

Israeli forces also carried out a powerful explosion on the outskirts of Beit Yahoun toward Kounine in the Tyre district, while another demolition was reported in Al-Tiri in the Bint Jbeil district.

Thousands killed in Israeli attacks since March

Lebanon's Health Ministry said Thursday that Israeli attacks since March 2, 2026, had killed 4,390 people and wounded 12,429 others as of Nov. 5.

Israel continues to occupy areas of southern Lebanon, including positions held for decades and others seized during the 2023-2024 war, when Israeli ground forces advanced approximately 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) into Lebanese territory.

About this analysis

Anadolu Agency reports, on the word of Lebanon's National News Agency, that Israeli forces fired near olive harvesters in Deir Mimas, detained a resident and carried out shelling, machine-gun fire and demolitions across four southern districts despite the June withdrawal agreement. It names Israel as the actor in every incident, gives the Health Ministry's toll plainly as killings by Israeli attacks, and states the occupation as fact. Nothing in it misleads.

What it gets right

  • “Israeli attacks since March 2, 2026, had killed 4,390 people and wounded 12,429 others”

Anadolu names Israel as the actor in the toll and uses the word killed. It gives the Lebanese Health Ministry's figure plainly, with no 'Hezbollah-run' caveat.

  • “Israel continues to occupy areas of southern Lebanon”

Anadolu calls the Israeli presence an occupation in its own voice, which matches the documented record of Israel holding a self-declared zone in southern Lebanon (R8).

  • “Israeli forces opened fire near Lebanese farmers harvesting olives and detained a resident during an incursion into Deir Mimas”

Anadolu puts the actor at the front of the sentence and calls the operation an incursion. It does not dress it up as clashes or a security incident, which fits The National's account of the same day (C1).
