Tap a highlight to see why it matters.1 finding

Israeli attacks in Gaza on Wednesday have killed at least five Palestinians and injured 32, medical sources told the Anadolu Agency , as the IDF continues its relentless strikes in the Strip following Tuesday’s Knesset elections. Attacks on Wednesday included an Israeli drone strike in the al-Mawasi area of Rafah, southern Gaza, that killed at least three Palestinians and injured 15. Sources told Anadolu that the strike targeted a Gaza government checkpoint responsible for monitoring commercial trucks entering through the Kerem Shalom crossing. The Palestinian news agency WAFA had a similar report , citing sources who said the drone strike struck a facility belonging to Gaza’s Economy Ministry as ministry officials and “representatives of traders were present to process commercial transactions.”

In northern Gaza, Israeli gunfire killed a man, identified as Mahmoud Samih al-Harsh, 28, in the Jabalia refugee camp.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said in its daily update on Wednesday , released about midday Gaza time, that over the previous 24 hours, Israeli forces killed one Palestinian and two others succumbed to wounds from previous Israeli attacks, including a six-year-old girl , identified as Tihani Mohammad Saeed Shalalfeh. Since the so-called ceasefire deal was signed, the Israeli military has killed at least 1,568 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 5,649, according to the ministry’s numbers.

The US has continued to back Israel’s constant ceasefire violations even after President Trump announced that Hamas agreed to a US proposal to disarm, a potential deal that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected. What we found (1)

Antiwar.com reports a day of Israeli attacks across Gaza, naming Israel as the attacker in every killing and naming three of the dead, including a six-year-old girl. The one lapse is a photo caption that says Gaza City's buildings were destroyed during the war without saying who destroyed them. Nothing in the body misleads the reader about who killed whom.

    Minor

    “buildings destroyed during the war”

    Why this matters
The caption says the buildings were destroyed during the war, with no actor. The war itself is the subject that does the destroying.
    The impression it gives
A reader looking at the photo is told the ruin came from a war in general rather than from a named party's bombing.
    The context
Israel destroyed these buildings. Anadolu's coverage of the same day says Israel's war on Gaza caused destruction affecting around 90% of the territory's civilian infrastructure. The rest of this article names Israel as the attacker throughout, so the gap is confined to this caption.

What it gets right

  • “an Israeli drone strike in the al-Mawasi area of Rafah, southern Gaza, that killed at least three Palestinians and injured 15”

It names the weapon, the actor and the place, and uses the word killed.

  • “including a six-year-old girl , identified as Tihani Mohammad Saeed Shalalfeh”

It gives a Palestinian child victim her name and age rather than leaving her as a number.

  • “Since the so-called ceasefire deal was signed, the Israeli military has killed at least 1,568 Palestinians in Gaza”

It names who has been killing since the ceasefire and gives the scale, rather than letting the ceasefire stand as peace.
