Sources to i24NEWS: Assassination of Khan Yunis commander was accidental... Who was the real target?
Investigations conducted by Hamas’s Internal Security Agency in the Gaza Strip revealed that Israel assassinated Mohammad al-Yazouri, the Khan Yunis commander in the al-Qassam Brigades, by coincidence during an attempt to assassinate a company commander in the brigades who was accompanying him. Sources revealed to i24NEWS that a collaborator with the Israeli intelligence service was the one who provided that information after his arrest. The alleged collaborator was a group leader in the al-Qassam Brigades and was exposed after appearing in several locations in a manner that raised suspicions about him. Upon his arrest, the collaborator confessed that he was behind the assassination operation and other operations, and that the real target at that time was Huzaifa Muammar, a commander of an al-Qassam unit. Muammar was killed in the same raid in which al-Yazouri was assassinated on September 10th of last year. The sources said that the exposure of the collaborator with Israel came two weeks after the disclosure of another collaborator, an officer in the same internal security agency from Khan Yunis. This alleged second collaborator seemingly provided highly sensitive security information about the whereabouts of senior officials in the agency and Hamas leaders, which led to their immediate relocation and transfer to safe places. This past September, the sources said the "Resistance Security" apparatus revealed a sabotage plot that armed gangs intended to carry out, with support from Israel, on the hospital. According to the plan, as stated by the agency at the time, large groups of armed gangs from Rafah, Khan Yunis, and Deir al-Balah were to take part, with intelligence and aerial support from Israel. The sources indicated that a number of Israeli agents tasked with forming and organizing sleeper cells in areas adjacent to vital centers in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah had been arrested in preparation for participating in the sabotage plan.
