Passive voice hides who attacked, the dead are labelled, the other side is not, and one side gets far more space.

This article can be challenged with Times of Israel's editorial-standards team.

  • Amend the headline to attribute the combatant label explicitly to the IDF rather than presenting it in journalist narration; a faithful revision would read, for example: "IDF says Hamas sniper killed in strike in southern Gaza was planning attacks on troops."
  • Add a verification caveat to the body of the article making clear that the claims that the killed person was a Hamas sniper and was planning attacks are IDF assertions that have not been independently verified.

IDF: Hamas sniper killed in strike in southern Gaza last night, was planning attacks

Emanuel (Mannie) Fabian is The Times of Israel's military correspondent

A Hamas sniper was killed in a strike in the southern Gaza Strip last night, the IDF says, adding that he was planning attacks on troops.

The military says the strike in Khan Younis killed Tamer Hamaida, who served as a sniper operative in Hamas’s military wing.

Throughout the war, Hamaida plotted various attacks, including sniper attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians, the military adds.
