Support us Labour has finally revealed the full cost of Home Office guidance given to asylum seekers after ignoring a Freedom of Information request from GB News. Asylum Minister Anna Turley confirmed taxpayers coughed up £21,635 for the development process of the controversial pamphlet. The Home Office only revealed the cost after Tory MP Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst submitted a written question on October 12. GB News had submitted its own Freedom of Information request on August 20, almost immediately after the nine-page pamphlet sparked fury across the political spectrum. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say The leaflet told asylum seekers both people must agree to have sex and consent cannot be given if someone is asleep, drunk, or unable to respond. It also makes clear it is not acceptable to whistle or make kissing noises at people on the street, "make sexual comments to someone", and that women in the UK have equal rights to men. However, the public only became aware of the full cost 25 days after the Home Office was supposed to respond to GB News's request for more information. The People's Channel also wanted information on whether the pamphlet was produced in any other languages. Anna Turley responded to the request in a written statement | PA In his written question, the Solihull West & Shirley said: "To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to her Department's publication entitled Understanding behaviours and expectations in the UK: a guide for asylum seekers, published on August 19, 2026, the total number of copies of the publication that have been distributed to date; and the total cost of producing and publishing the publication to date." In a response released earlier today, Home Office Minister Anna Turley said: "No physical materials have been printed, ordered or distributed and therefore no distribution costs have been incurred. "The total cost of the development of the posters and the leaflets was £21,635." Dr Shastri-Hurst claimed the revelations about the almost £22,000 bill proved Labour's priorities do not align with the concerns expressed by the British public. LATEST DEVELOPMENTS Labour told to tell GB News the truth after ‘covering up’ asylum seeker rape guide cost to taxpayers Piddington women left ‘terrified’ as Home Office stonewalls GB News over asylum seeker rape guidance Andy Burnham faces revolt after PM splits with Shabana Mahmood over small boats in Brexit blame game The Home Office released its response earlier today | GB NEWS He told GB News: “I think most members of the public would find it utterly remarkable the Government has spent the best part of £22,000 of taxpayers’ money on a publication which should never have been needed in the first place. "In such circumstances, is it any wonder the public are despairing of this Government’s priorities?" The People's Channel understood the Home Office was still preparing to respond to GB News's request after the department was accused of a cover-up earlier this month. Ameer Kotecha, a former Whitehall mandarin who now heads up the Centre for Government Reform, told GB News earlier this month: "These are simple questions, and the Home Office has had nearly two months to answer them. The Home Office guidance was published on August 19 | HOME OFFICE "Missing a legal deadline on something this sensitive is a failure of basic accountability. "When it was revealed in August that the Home Office had had to produce a booklet telling asylum seekers not to rape, it understandably caused widespread concern amongst the British public. "The public has a right to know the context around this guidance, including the extent of distribution. "When a department cannot meet its own transparency obligations, people reasonably conclude it has something to hide." The People's Channel is aware of requests being rejected due to cost restraints, international treaty obligations and the information likely being prejudicial to the commercial interests of an individual. Concerns in Piddington have been expressed amid the FOI row | PA Ministers are now considering a more drastic Freedom of Information clampdown by cutting the £600 processing ceiling after Whitehall received a record 83,041 submissions in 2024. Official figures show the Home Office rejected 1,686 requests due to cost in 2025, up from 1,071 the year before. Women in Piddington were also among those concerned about the cost to taxpayers after similar requests were rejected due to so-called "vexatious" claims. The row comes amid growing concerns about sexual offences being committed by men who have arrived on British shores via small boats. Some 83,297 migrants have arrived in the UK via small boat crossings since the Labour Party took power in 2024 | GETTY Hadush Kebatu, an Ethiopian asylum seeker who was eventually returned home, was jailed for 12 months after being convicted of sexual assault in Epping. Meanwhile, Kurdish migrant Mehmet Ogur was sentenced to serve seven years behind bars after raping an 18-year-old woman. Ibrahim Alshafe, 26, from Egypt, and Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, from Iran, were also handed 21-year prison sentences after raping a woman on Brighton beach in October last year. Self-described Palestinian Mohammed Abbas, who arrived on British shores in March, also carried out sex crimes against two young girls just days after being handed a £250,000 two-bedroom taxpayer-funded home in Cardiff. Conservative MP Dr Neil Shastri-Hurst questioned the Home Office | HOUSE OF COMMONS Despite growing concerns, the Ministry of Justice is battling in the courts to block the release of migrant crime data. A Home Office spokesman told The People's Channel: "We expect everyone who comes to the UK to abide by our laws. "If they do not, they will face consequences, including the refusal of their asylum claim and removal from the UK. “Returns of failed asylum seekers have reached their highest level since 2010 under this Government.” Our Standards: The GB News Editorial Charter Politics Burka ban debate sparks fury in Welsh Parliament as Reform compared to Nazis for 'anti-British' claim Exclusive Politics Kemi Badenoch demands John Healey’s resignation if his Budget fails to deliver defence spending promise Politics 'He is not a serious Prime Minister!'
