Antiwar.com, on Lebanon, 25 October 2026

Antiwar.com reports Israel's escalating strikes on southern Lebanon and its troop build-up along the border, naming Israel as the actor in the headline and throughout the body, calling the occupation an occupation, and reporting the Israeli defence minister's threat against Lebanon's Shia community. Nothing in the article hides who is doing the killing or launders Israeli claims as fact. The one gap is that it gives no figure for the people Israeli attacks have killed, which other coverage of the same campaign supplies.

The article reports a weekend of shelling, drone flights and machine gun fire with the only casualty note being "no casualties were reported" in one village, and never gives any figure for the dead. Anadolu, covering the same days of strikes, reports Israeli attacks have killed at least 4,386 people and injured 12,407 since 2 March while displacing more than a million. Without that, a reader can take the current strikes as largely bloodless.

Israel Steps Up Lebanon Strikes, Masses Troops Along Border

The weekend saw heavy Israeli artillery shelling and drone overflights across Lebanon , with growing concerns that the ongoing war, already seeing a scaling up of daily strikes, is about to see another substantial Israel escalation. Shelling was reported in Tyre District, with the heaviest strikes in Mansouri and Majdal Zoun . Vehicles advanced into Haddatha, spraying machine gun fire against the village, though no casualties were reported. That’s a normal level of attacking for Israel’s ongoing war, but Israel’s KAN broadcaster is reporting that a precipitous escalation of the war may be in the works, with “tens of thousands” of Israeli troops positioned along the border. Smoke rises in Mansouri following Israeli explosions reported by Lebanon’s state news agency NNA as seen from Hinniyeh, southern Lebanon, September 28, 2026. REUTERS/Stringer TPX IMAGES OF THE DAY Lebanese officials have reportedly received multiple diplomatic warnings related to the idea that Israel is about to re-invade the country, urging them to be “vigilant.” Since Israel is already occupying much of southern Lebanon militarily, it’s not clear how much of this is actually going to be “new” or how much is just Israel re-emphasizing their many offensive wars during election season. The concern of the escalation involving another round of Israeli attacks against the Lebanese capital of Beirut is sufficient that the US State Department reiterated a travel advisory against going to be country. The US embassy is also reportedly limiting the movements of their own personnel. In recent weeks, Defense Secretary Israel Katz has threatened to seize yet more of Lebanon’s territory , and suggested the Shi’ite community in the country might be totally annihilated by the conflict. Though Israel is presenting this as trying to deter Hezbollah from fighting them, the fact that they’re occupying Lebanese soil and actively at war with Hezbollah suggests such fighting was already a foregone conclusion. What it gets right

  • “Israel Steps Up Lebanon Strikes, Masses Troops Along Border”

The headline names Israel as the party doing the striking, instead of leaving the actor out as mainstream headlines on Lebanon routinely do.

  • “Israel is already occupying much of southern Lebanon militarily”

It states the occupation plainly as fact rather than as a contested claim, which matches the documented record.

  • “suggested the Shi’ite community in the country might be totally annihilated by the conflict”

It reports an Israeli minister's threat against a whole community and attributes it to him, instead of passing over it or recasting Lebanon's Shia residents as Hezbollah.
