What it gets right

  • “claiming he “deserved to be thrashed” in the US elections due to his policies and “dirty” style of politics”

The Independent keeps Badenoch's verdict on Trump as her claim, with her exact words in quotation marks, rather than adopting it in its own voice.

  • “dismissing several of his party's proposals as “bonkers””

The Independent attributes the dismissal of Reform UK's proposals to Badenoch and quotes her word, so the reader knows whose judgement it is.

  • “insisting he is wary of facing her in an early general election”

The Independent reports Badenoch's claim about Andy Burnham's motives as her assertion, not as established fact.
