Severe weather leaves 7,200 customers without power in southern France
Severe weather left 7,200 customers without electricity in southern France on Tuesday, mainly in the Bouches-du-Rhone and Gard departments, according to Franceinfo, which reported the figure from electricity network operator Enedis. The figure, recorded at 5 pm local time (1500GMT), did not include Corsica, whose electricity network is not managed by Enedis. Heavy rainfall flooded parts of the Gard and Herault departments, disrupted traffic, and forced the closure of sections of the A9 motorway. Several streets in Lunel, in Herault, were flooded, while emergency services carried out operations to move residents to safety. Authorities also reported road closures in the Gard department as rising water levels affected roads and bridges. The severe weather followed heavy rainfall that began Monday and continued into Tuesday, with weather and flood warnings remaining in place in parts of the region.
