GB News retells an Israeli military statement as its own reporting. It states as fact that the dead commander held Emily Hand hostage, labels the Palestinians killed as militants and fighters in its own voice on the IOF's word alone, and inflates the Nuseirat strike to seven dead when its own later sentences show two. It also repeats the claim that all 1,200 deaths on 7 October were murders by Hamas, which Israel's own records contradict, and gives no Palestinian source anywhere.

  1. Labels people on one side's word

    Severe

“Four additional Hamas fighters were killed”

    Why this matters
GB News opens its account of Wednesday's southern strikes by calling the four dead "Hamas fighters" as plain fact.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe it is verified that the four people killed in Khan Younis and Rafah were Hamas combatants.
    The context
The very next sentences show that this identification comes from the IOF. Only the military says it killed a man "whom it identified" as a Nukhba member, and only the IOF says all four were working against Israel.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“whom it identified as a member of Hamas's elite Nukhba unit”
    • Elsewhere in the article“The IDF said all four had been working”

    “killed three more militants”

    Why this matters
GB News names three people killed near Rafah and labels them "militants" in its own voice, dropping the attribution it gave one sentence earlier.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe the Rafah dead are confirmed militants, even though nothing independent is offered.
    The context
The source is an IOF and Shin Bet announcement. Arutz Sheva carries it in the army's own words, and GB News gives no other source.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

Four more people were killed in two Israeli strikes in southern Gaza on Wednesday. The Israeli military said they were Hamas members; there was no independent confirmation.

  2. States one side's claim as fact

    Serious

“Hamas commander who held Irish-Israeli girl, 8, hostage”

    Why this matters
The headline states as fact that the dead man held Emily Hand hostage, with no attribution.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe it is independently established that this man was Emily Hand's captor.
    The context
The claim comes from the IOF and Shin Bet statement announcing his killing. The Jerusalem Post attributes it to the military.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

“Abu Taqiya had been involved in holding numerous hostages since the October 7 massacre”

    Why this matters
GB News repeats the IOF's list of hostages this man allegedly held, in its own voice.
    The impression it gives
Readers take the military's account of his role as verified reporting by GB News.
    The context
Other outlets report this list as what the IOF said, naming the hostages in the same order. GB News drops that attribution.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

“The girl was held captive by Abu Taqiya for 50 days”

    Why this matters
GB News goes further than its source and says he personally held the girl for all 50 days.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe this man was Emily Hand's sole captor for her whole captivity.
    The context
The IOF statement says only that he was "involved in holding" twelve hostages. Nothing in the material supports him holding her for 50 days.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

The Israeli military said a Hamas commander it killed in Nuseirat had been involved in holding twelve hostages, including Emily Hand.

  3. Uses figures that mislead

    Serious

“Her former captor was slain alongside six other Hamas fighters in strikes on the Nuseirat area on Thursday”

    Why this matters
GB News says six others were killed with him in Nuseirat on Thursday.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe seven people were killed in the Nuseirat strikes on Thursday.
    The context
The article's own later sentences say only one other man, Abu Oshaiba, died in that airstrike. Four more were killed on Wednesday in Khan Younis and Rafah. The Jerusalem Post reports the same split.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

“Abu Taqiya was killed alongside six other Hamas fighters”

    Why this matters
The photo caption repeats the inflated figure of six others killed with him.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe he died with six others, rather than one, in a single attack.
    The context
S14 says six were killed in total across multiple strikes, which includes Abu Taqiya himself. That leaves five others, of whom only one died with him.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“Three of the six militants killed across multiple strikes this week”

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

Abu Taqiya and Abu Oshaiba were killed in one strike in Nuseirat on Thursday. Four other people were killed in separate strikes in southern Gaza on Wednesday.

  4. Makes a false claim

    Serious

“the 2023 attack that saw 1,200 murdered by Hamas militants”

    Why this matters
GB News states that all 1,200 people killed on 7 October were murdered by Hamas.
    The impression it gives
Readers believe every death that day was caused by Hamas.
    The context
Israel's own military investigations and memorial records attribute at least 13 of the deaths on 7 to 9 October 2023 to Israeli fire.

    How we know

    • On the recordIsrael's own military investigations and memorial records attribute at least 13 of the deaths on 7 to 9 October 2023 to Israeli fire.newscord.org (opens in a new tab)

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

Emily was among those kidnapped in the 7 October 2023 attack, in which about 1,200 people were killed.

  5. Uses a loaded word

    Minor

“the same airstrike that eliminated Abu Taqiya”

    Why this matters
GB News adopts the army's word "eliminated" in its own voice for a killing.
    The impression it gives
Readers absorb the military's language, which treats the killing as removing a target.
    The context
The man was killed by an Israeli airstrike, as the same sentence says of Abu Oshaiba. "Eliminated" is the IOF's own term, as Arutz Sheva shows.

    How we know

    Show it in the article

  6. One side gets the space

    Minor

“The Israeli military added that it again used precision weaponry and aerial surveillance to reduce civilian risk.”

    Why this matters
GB News repeats the IOF's assurance about civilian safety for the third time (after S17 and S21) and sets nothing against it.
    The impression it gives
Readers come away with only the army's account of who was killed and how carefully.
    The context
Every account of the strikes comes from the Israeli military. No Palestinian source, family, witness or health official is quoted anywhere in the article.

    How we know

    • Checked against the whole articleIt never uses the words “Palestinian” and “witness”.
