Iran ‘plotted to assassinate’ Israel Prime Minister Bejamin Netanyahu’s son Yair in Florida
<p> JERUSALEM: Iranian agents had Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son, Yair, under surveillance in Florida as part of a plot to assassinate him, according to a US media report.</p> <p> Israeli intelligence was said to have discovered the plot in December 2025, and believed Iranian operatives were “on the ground” in the Miami area carrying out surveillance on the 35-year-old and monitoring his movements, Newsmax said, citing information provided by a US law enforcement source.</p> <p> Yair Netanyahu, who had spent much of the past several years living in Florida, was instructed to leave the US and return to Israel immediately, according to the Newsmax report. He reportedly left without packing his belongings and has remained in Israel since.</p> <p> The details emerged after Netanyahu said during an interview with Israeli broadcaster Channel 14 on Monday that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his two sons.</p> <p> “Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill, to murder one of my sons,” Netanyahu said, without identifying which of his children was the target or providing any details about when or where the attempt occurred.</p> <p> Israeli media subsequently reported that security agencies had known about the plot for several months but news outlets were barred from reporting on it by military censors.</p> <p> Netanyahu disclosed it while he defended the security protections provided to his family, arguing that the alleged Iranian threat demonstrated such precautions were necessary.</p> <p> Yair, Netanyahu’s elder and more publicly prominent son, reportedly spent extended spells living in the Miami area in recent years. His state-funded security arrangements while residing abroad previously drew criticism in Israel.</p> <p> The reported plot comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran amid the US-Israeli war against Tehran that began in late February and claimed the life of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials.</p>
