At least 24 people have been executed in connection with the January protests so far, according to UN experts. Advertisement The unrest spiralled into widespread anti-government demonstrations that were met with the biggest crackdown in the history of the Islamic Republic. Security forces killed thousands of protesters, filling the streets with piles of body bags. The war in Iran was paused in June after Tehran and Washington thrashed out a truce agreement. Washington suspended a two-week campaign of renewed strikes on Saturday for fresh negotiations but Trump threatened to resume attacks if talks fall through. Amid the high-stakes meetings, Israel has reportedly shared new secret intelligence with Trump on Iran’s nuclear activity at Pickaxe Mountain. Tehran allegedly transferred thousands of uranium-enrichment centrifuges into the site after the 12-day war in June 2025, when US and Israeli strikes pummelled Iran’s main nuclear sites. Advertisement Today Trump told Fox News: “We have the greatest cameras in the world focused on [it]…I know exactly what’s going on at Pickaxe, it’s not a big problem. “We took out their nuclear sites, and we’ll have to take out Pickaxe if we don’t make a deal. If we don’t make a deal, we’ll take it out very easily.” The highly fortified Pickaxe Mountain lair lies more than 300 feet beneath Kolang Mountain, near the Natanz nuclear facility.
