Support us Scotland's bid for independence from the UK could result in its Government facing bankruptcy, a new report has warned. Think tank Facts4EU , alongside Stand for Our Sovereignty and The Campaign for an Independent Britain , shared exclusively with GB News the seven killer blows for Scottish nationalists hoping for independence.

, declaring it "game over" for the "independence-obsessed" Scottish Government. The leaders of the SNP, Plaid Cymru and Sinn Fein recently assembled to make a joint statement on independence from the United Kingdom. TRENDING Stories Videos Your Say In their collective memorandum of understanding, the three leaders declared that Westminster's time is "coming to an end".

Their statement said: "For people watching across these islands - for people watching around the world - there could be no clearer sign that Westminster's time is coming to an end. "No Westminster Government has the right to block democracy or undermine the principle that our people will decide their own future. "We recognise that our parties have different constitutional positions and that each nation will determine its own future in its own way and in its own time."

Scotland risks facing bankruptcy in its bid for independence, Facts4EU has revealed | REUTERS / FACTS4EU Delving into the SNP’s independence hopes, Facts4EU warned that similarly with the EU-UK Brexit negotiations, the Treasury would "immediately" impose a multi-billion-pound "divorce bill" on an independent Scotland.

Combined with its current domestic deficit of -£25.3billion, , pushing its economy into "dangerous territory". The SNP's proposed independence plan also involves an eventual transition to a new, independent Scottish Pound. Looking at Scotland's defences, the SNP plans to become a "nuclear-free nation", reliant on its own newly created military and intelligence services. However, the think tank has warned that the move would make the nation "relatively defenceless" and be "forced to pay London directly" for defence protection. They stressed that adopting a separate currency means that every cross-border contract, supermarket shipment and supply chain transaction between Scotland and England would be "hit with foreign exchange fees, hedging costs, and currency risk".

Reacting to the report, Lord John Redwood concluded there are "plenty of good reasons why so-called independence would be a bad deal". He said: "The SNP have never wanted proper independence. They envisage Scotland joining the EU, so many of their laws would be imposed from Brussels. "They would willingly pay the extra taxes and charges the EU requires of members. They would put up prices by accepting tariffs on a wide range of imports from outside the EU that are tariff-free in the UK, post-Brexit.

GB News writes in its own voice that a report by Facts4EU and two allied campaign groups 'exposes' the SNP's case. It states the group's £240 billion debt claim and its debt ratio projection as settled fact. The report and Lord Redwood carry the whole economic case, and the only other side is a line saying the Scottish Government was contacted.

  1. States one side's claim as fact

    Serious

“Facts4EU exposes how "implausible" the SNP’s case to the Scottish people really is”

    Why this matters
GB News uses "exposes" and "really is" in its own voice. The verbs treat the group's opinion of the SNP's case as a proven finding.
    The impression it gives
That the SNP's case has been shown to be implausible, not merely criticised by a campaign group.
    The context
This is a contested political judgment by Facts4EU and its partner campaigns. The article sets no other assessment against it and has no response from the Scottish Government.

“Under international law, Scotland would be compelled to inherit its pro-rata population share of this liability, equating to roughly £240billion.”

    Why this matters
GB News states as its own fact that international law "would" compel Scotland to take on £240 billion of debt. It drops the attribution it gave in the sentence before.
    The impression it gives
That a £240 billion inherited debt is a settled legal certainty.
    The context
The figure and the legal claim come from Facts4EU's warning about a Treasury "divorce bill". The article gives no other source for either, so this is the group's claim, not established law.

“Scotland would start life as a sovereign nation with a detrimental debt-to-GDP ratio exceeding 110 per cent”

    Why this matters
GB News states the debt-to-GDP outcome as what "would" happen, in its own voice. Only the phrase "dangerous territory" is in quotation marks.
    The impression it gives
That a debt ratio above 110 per cent is a fixed outcome of independence.
    The context
The ratio rests on the group's own £240 billion assumption, which the article reports only as Facts4EU's warning. It is a projection from one side of the debate.

    How we know

    • Elsewhere in the article“the Treasury would "immediately" impose a multi-billion-pound "divorce bill"”

    Show it in the article

    Written straight

Facts4EU claims an independent Scotland would have to take on about £240 billion of UK debt, which it says would push its debt above 110 per cent of GDP.

  2. One side gets the space

    Minor

“Scotland would be a lot worse off if a majority voted for independence.”

    Why this matters
GB News ends its argument on Lord Redwood's verdict, after giving the report and his comments all the economic case.
    The impression it gives
That no one disputes the economic case against independence.
    The context
No economist, SNP figure or independence supporter answers any of the economic claims. The Scottish Government appears only as having been contacted.
