Hurricane Isaias Nears Landfall

Hurricane Isaias, a Category 3 storm with winds of up to 115 miles per hour, is approaching the Florida Panhandle. It is expected to hit somewhere between Gulf Shores, Ala., and Destin, Fla., in the coming hours. Track its progress here. A huge storm surge is expected, forecasters said. People have filled sandbags, bought gasoline and boarded up buildings in preparation. The communities most at risk include Fort Walton Beach, Navarre, Destin and Pensacola. A tornado watch was issued this afternoon for most of the panhandle, as well as parts of Alabama and Georgia. Isaias is the first Atlantic hurricane of the 2026 season. The storm officially became one on Wednesday night after strengthening in the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico . It could maintain its strength through landfall, forecasters warn.
