Care home given more time to improve - or face closure Image caption, The Care Inspectorate previously raised concerns about Bonnyton House By Rebecca Curran BBC Scotland Published 5 hours ago A care home in Aberdeenshire has been given more time to make significant improvements - or risk closure. Bonnyton House, in Ellon, was served with an improvement notice by the Care Inspectorate earlier this year, setting out requirements for the home to meet.

The regulator said issues involving gas safety, hot water and other potential health and safety risks had now been addressed. However, it still has concerns over the standard of care provided to residents, staff training, and management. The owner has been approached for comment. The home now has until 3 December to make significant progress. The Care Inspectorate said if that did not happen, it intended to propose cancelling registration. Earlier this year, Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP) cancelled its contract with the home . AHSCP said this was because it was not assured improvements had been made and sustained. At that time, the management said the home would likely have to close. BBC Scotland News understands there are currently no residents living at the home.

What it gets right

  • “The regulator said issues involving gas safety, hot water and other potential health and safety risks had now been addressed.”

The article credits the regulator with the improvements already made, so the reader sees progress as well as the remaining concerns, each tied to its source.

  • “AHSCP said this was because it was not assured improvements had been made and sustained.”

The article gives the partnership's own stated reason for cancelling its contract and does not put the claim in its own voice.
