The Environment Agency upgraded the region's status after Yorkshire experienced its fifth driest April to September period on record. Yorkshire joins central, southern and eastern England in drought status, while the North East and North West remain in prolonged dry weather. Yorkshire Water said it is not planning to introduce water restrictions for customers because of extensive work to manage supplies, reduce leakage and move water around the network. However, members of the public are being urged to reduce their water consumption to assist in the region's recovery.
