The article is the BBC's report of nine people killed by Israeli fire in Gaza in one day: seven at a police post near a busy market in Jabalia, a woman among them; a man in Khan Younis; and Muataz Abu Shaar, a boy of ten, shot in Rafah while, in his aunt's words, 'sitting in his tent, getting changed'. All of it under the 'ceasefire' in force since October 2025, during Israel's genocide in Gaza. The territory's health ministry says at least 1,110 people have been killed by Israeli fire since that 'ceasefire' took effect; the Israeli military says four of its soldiers have been killed.

The headline withholds what the article reports. The only headline the BBC gave these nine deaths is about a strike on a 'police post'. The woman, the man in Khan Younis and the ten-year-old shot in his tent appear nowhere at headline level, and most readers never get further: roughly six in ten people read no more than headlines in a typical week (American Press Institute, 2014), and 59 per cent of links shared on social media are never clicked (Columbia University and Inria, 2016). Other outlets showed the alternative the same day: 'Israeli fire kills nine in Gaza, including a 10-year-old, officials say' (Arab News).

'Hamas-run' is attached to the dead, not to a claim. The first sentence brands the police force whose officers were just killed as 'Hamas-run'. That qualifier attributes no claim; it characterises the dead, in the sentence reporting their killing. Hamas has been proscribed in full in the UK since November 2021, so the label files the dead, before any evidence is offered, under a terrorist organisation, and with them the tens of thousands of Palestinians who staff Gaza's civil institutions. The article itself quotes a bereaved uncle: his nephew 'was on duty - part of the civilian police force - patrolling the Fallujah roundabout in a civilian vehicle'. No governing descriptor is applied to the other party anywhere in the article.
