Five major newsrooms sanitised the killing in their headlines. The same act, the shooting dead of an infant, was rendered as 'gunfire', as 'army fire', as a car being 'fired on', and as soldiers who 'open fire on car'. The actor is removed, softened, or pushed behind the weapon.

Sky News led with attribution and the weapon: 'Palestinian health ministry says baby killed and parents wounded by Israeli gunfire in West Bank'. The death is cast as a claim, and 'gunfire' stands in for the people who fired.
