Abbotsford garbage dumping
Abbotsford Police identified an Indian-origin woman in viral videos allegedly dumping items into waterways and public spaces in Abbotsford, British Columbia, and issued two fines totalling $1,000.

CTV News said the woman was handed $1,000 in tickets after the garbage-dumping video went viral, and police said the tickets were for littering.
The Tribune | Asian reported the videos began circulating widely on August 17, 2026, but Abbotsford Police said the incidents shown in the footage actually occurred in late July.
Police said the footage showed the woman dumping items into the water at Mill Lake and in the area of Blue Jay Elementary School, and they launched an investigation after being alerted to the videos.
Abbotsford Police did not release the woman's identity, citing privacy legislation and noting that privacy laws can limit the release of personal details involving individuals.
Police urge no online race
Sgt. Paul Walker, quoted by the Vancouver Sun, said, "These incidents understandably generated strong reactions," and he added that police's job was to "objectively investigate and take action having considered all the relevant information."V
Walker also said racist, discriminatory and hateful comments directed at an individual’s race, ethnicity, or background are unacceptable, telling the public that "Those remarks do nothing to solve the problem".
Castanet reported Walker thanked members of the public in a statement posted to social media, saying, "Within hours, the public's assistance proved invaluable, allowing officers to identify the woman involved and move the investigation forward."
Castanet said officers attended the woman's residence and issued two violation tickets for littering totaling $1,000, while Walker said they are legally unable to release the woman’s name.

Castanet said Walker told residents that officers can’t solve crimes they don’t know about, and it said the viral video resulted in numerous racist comments online directed at the suspect’s culture.
