Scott injury sidelines him

Alex Scott withdrew from England's squad ahead of the Nations League match against the Czech Republic after a thigh injury, with England coach Thomas Tuchel saying Scott trained in full before Croatia and that there was “zero risk taken from our side.” Tuchel described Scott's injury as “a strange one,” explaining that when England noticed slight discomfort during the match, Scott said he did not want to come off and later said he could have played 90 minutes. Bournemouth said it was unhappy with how England handled the injury, and the reports placed Scott's layoff at up to eight weeks due to a quadriceps issue.

Scott had played 70 minutes in central midfield alongside Elliot Anderson before being substituted in England's 7-0 win over Croatia, and he had made his full England debut in that match. Ezri Konsa was also ruled out of the fixture at Wembley as a precaution, with Tuchel saying Konsa's issues were “nothing major but not worth the risk taking.”

Tuchel defends England process

Thomas Tuchel insisted England had only received “green lights” from Scott and the medics, after Scott trained in both sessions before the Croatia match and did extra work after training. Tuchel said, “When we were aware there was slight discomfort during the match and asked if he wanted to come off he said no,” and he added that Scott even felt he could have played 90 minutes. Bournemouth's frustration centered on the timing, with the reports saying England knew Scott was nursing the thigh issue before the 7-0 win over Croatia.

ESPN reported that Scott and Konsa returned to their clubs for treatment, and it said Tuchel's depleted England squad would include Rico Lewis after the Under-21s qualified for the 2027 UEFA U21 Euros. Sky Sports News said Scott was set to return to Bournemouth for further assessment after initial scans suggested he could be missing for several weeks, while Tuchel described the situation as “a one-off.”S

Bournemouth and England next

Bournemouth faced a stretch of fixtures while Scott was sidelined, with the reports saying he could be absent for the nine games Bournemouth are due to play between 10 October and 8 November. Bournemouth's schedule included Europa League clashes with Sturm Graz, AC Milan and Sparta Prague, and it also included a Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Aston Villa. England's Nations League preparations continued with the match against the Czech Republic at Wembley, and the squad changes included Scott and Konsa withdrawing from the camp.

Tuchel said he would not call up replacements, and he described the focus on the “guys who are in camp” as England prepared to rely on options such as Elliot Anderson and Jude Bellingham. The reports also said Scott's injury came after he impressed in his first start in Rijeka, and Tuchel linked Scott's absence to a need for “more variety” in midfield for the remaining matches in the international window.
