Echo Studio gains camera
Amazon unveiled a new lineup of Alexa devices that includes an upgraded Echo Studio with Home Camera, a next-generation Echo Dot, and the Echo Time smart alarm clock, alongside an Alexa Photo Frame and an all-new Echo Show 16. Amazon said the Echo Studio with Home Camera adds visual intelligence so Alexa can “see and help,” and the company described Live View in the Alexa app as a way to “check in on the room when you’re away.”
Amazon also said the Echo Studio with Home Camera keeps its “powerful audio architecture” with Dolby Atmos and Advanced Room Adaptation, and Amazon added that the speaker will be able to pair with compatible Fire TV devices for video calls. Amazon positioned the Echo Dot as “the most capable yet,” citing a built-in smart home hub and Amazon’s custom AZ3 silicon, plus a fourth mic and Voice ID for personalization.
Sleep sensing and photo frame
Amazon described Echo Time as a camera-free smart clock designed for the nightstand, and Amazon said it uses sleep sensing technology powered by Omnisense to wake people “within 10 to 60 minutes of your scheduled alarm.” Amazon said Echo Time has earned the National Sleep Foundation’s SleepMark for meeting evidence-based sleep standards, and Amazon added that the display gradually brightens to mimic a natural sunrise.
Amazon also introduced the Alexa Photo Frame as “the first photo frame with Alexa built in,” and Amazon said it connects to Amazon Photos so pictures sync automatically with new ones appearing as they are taken. Amazon said the Alexa Photo Frame uses Alexa to intelligently surface shots worth seeing, and Amazon described the device’s 10-inch anti-glare touchscreen as the place where users can swipe through photos.
Smart home hub and pricing
Amazon said the next-generation Echo Dot includes a built-in smart home hub that connects to thousands of compatible devices such as lights, locks, and thermostats, and Amazon added that a built-in eero Wi-Fi extender adds up to 1,000 square feet of coverage. Amazon said the new Echo Dot ships today for $99.99, and Amazon also described the Echo Studio with Home Camera as available for $249.99 while the standard Echo Studio costs $219.99.
Amazon said Echo Studio with Home Camera keeps its high-excursion woofer and Dolby Atmos, and Amazon described Advanced Room Adaptation as continuously tuned to the space. Amazon said Echo Time is available today for $199.99, and Amazon described the Alexa Photo Frame as starting at $200 while also noting that it comes with 90 days of Alexa Plus for the device.
