Visa revoked, letter sent

Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, the son of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, said the United States revoked his visa and that he was notified Thursday morning that his U.S. visa had been revoked.

López Beltrán disclosed the development on Instagram on Thursday, August 13, and published a three-page letter addressed to Donald Trump from Teapa, Tabasco.

In the letter, he accused Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau of ordering the withdrawal of his authorization to enter the United States.

He said the decision was politically motivated and “propagandistic,” arguing there was “no evidence” of an immoral or criminal act against him.

The US government has not publicly disclosed the reason for the visa revocation, and the reason has not been publicly confirmed by Washington.

Rubio and Landau targeted

López Beltrán’s letter directly challenged the State Department’s action by portraying it as a “dirty trick” and a “Hitlerian” style move.

He wrote that “Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Department of State, and Christopher Landau, Undersecretary of that department, self-styled ‘the visa remover,’ have ordered the removal of my permission to enter the United States of America.”

In the same correspondence, he insisted that “these officials have no evidence against me of any immoral or criminal act,” and he asked Trump whether he was aware of the decision.

He also demanded to know why Trump would not remove Rubio and Landau, whom he described as “gang leaders” dedicated to “spying on, harassing, interfering with, and abusing other countries.”

The State Department maintains a policy of not commenting on individual visa records, citing privacy laws, according to the reporting.

Broader visa crackdown

The López Beltrán case is presented alongside a wider set of U.S. visa revocations for Mexican political figures, including Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila and her husband, Carlos, whose U.S. tourist visas were “unexpectedly canceled.”

Reporting tied the revocations to a crackdown orchestrated by the Trump administration and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, framing it as an escalation in Washington’s efforts to combat the flow of fentanyl across the southern border.

The same coverage said the revocations were interpreted as a rebuke of Ávila’s administration and that the move sent “shockwaves” through the ruling Morena party while straining bilateral relations.

In the Hindustan Times account, the reason for López Beltrán’s visa revocation has not been publicly disclosed by the US government, and it said the lack of a stated reason is significant.

As López Beltrán appealed directly to Trump for an explanation, the reporting described the dispute as part of a broader debate in Mexico about whether political elites can be affected by foreign jurisdiction through visa cancellations.
