Europe captain Anna Nordqvist dismissed Team USA captain Angela Stanford’s “dig” at the Solheim Cup course set-up after suggestions the Bernardus Golf greens had been deliberately slowed down.

Nordqvist’s Team Europe regained the trophy with a 15-13 win after prevailing in Sunday’s singles at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands on 13 September 2026.
Stanford said at her post-tournament press conference, “Europe played well. I don't think we played bad. I think we just didn't make enough putts.”
Stanford also pointed to expectations about speed, saying, “Even when we showed up in July here, they were faster.”
Nordqvist responded that “We came here in July, it was a very hot and dry summer, so the course played a little bit different then,” and said rain and firmness management shaped conditions.
Emotions, singles, and points
After the scores were tied at 8-8 following the opening two days, Europe pulled away in Sunday singles at Bernardus Golf to finish 15-13, with the Guardian describing the margin as 15-13 when “in essence, there was more between the teams on Sunday.”
The Guardian quoted Nordqvist saying, “I think there has just been so many emotions bottled up,” as she reflected on captaining and returning to the podium.
In the decisive singles run, Charley Hull beat Megan Khang 3&2 and Lottie Woad edged out Auston Kim 2&1, with Hull’s victory charge beginning after Europe started the day level at 8-8.
The East London and West Essex Guardian Series said Woad was “four up by the end of the front nine” before Kim reduced the deficit, and Woad rolled in for par at the 16th to secure a crucial 2&1.
AP’s Mike Corder, via TSN, said Woad had felt she was “letting everyone down,” but added, “Ends up I got the winning putt.”
