Read-Only Money Access
Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude, letting users “securely connect your bank and card accounts and ask in your own words,” while the company says “Access is read-only, and Personal Finance can’t move, manage, or invest your money.” Anthropic routed the connection through Plaid, and the feature design says users authenticate by signing in to their bank themselves so Claude “doesn’t ask for or see your bank password.”
“Access is read-only, and Personal Finance can’t move, manage, or invest your money.”
Anthropic said the rollout is limited to the US and is “rolling out in beta this week” for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers, while it also described the feature as not designed to give investment advice. Anthropic said Personal Finance can still expose balances, credit limits, account details, and “up to two years of transactions,” and it can present results as “dashboards, calendars, and more.”
Spending Analysis and Limits
Anthropic described Claude as able to break expenses into categories, compare spending across months, flag duplicate charges or creeping subscription costs, and identify upcoming bills. Anthropic also said the Personal Finance hub does not train its models on user chats, and it told users they can disconnect accounts whenever they wish.
Engadget reported that Plaid’s backend has connections to more than 12,000 financial institutions, and it said Claude’s access remains read-only so it cannot move, manage, or invest money. Anthropic said Claude can make mistakes and advised users to check important figures with their bank, while it also positioned the tool as answering questions in everyday language from balances and transactions.
Privacy, Training, and Next Steps
Anthropic said Personal Finance chats inside the Personal Finance hub “aren’t used to train its models,” and it said “For anything you share with Claude outside the hub, your privacy settings apply.” Unite.AI reported that Personal Finance is excluded from Free, Team, and Enterprise plans, and it said the beta is limited to eligible US subscribers on Pro, Max, and Ultra.
The Verge said Claude’s access is read-only and that Claude “doesn’t see your banking passwords,” while it also listed what Claude can see through Plaid, including the last four digits of the number and up to two years of transaction history. Anthropic framed the feature as “a first step,” and it said it is exploring how Claude can work alongside “the licensed professionals and regulated firms they trust,” inviting “banks, wealth managers, and financial services companies who want to help shape it.”
